I came to documenting Scottsdale later than Tempe or Mesa. The city is very clean, and I enjoy photographing the arts district. There is much to see. It also feels more commercialized. It does not have the small-town feel I get in downtown Glendale or Mesa. Scottsdale tries for an old-west look. To me it is more Hollywood Old West than the authentic one.
I do enjoy the sculpture in the arts district and at the Scottsdale Center for the Arts. That plaza is one of the nicer places in the valley to make an outdoor portrait. The city is still worth the time. This portfolio is that tension — the art, and the polish around it.
