Bryce Canyon National Park is in southern Utah near Zion. You can hike down among the hoodoos, and some of the best scenery is on those trails, not only from the overlooks. The hiking is not too bad if you are in decent shape. Mornings and evenings are the time to photograph.
From mid-July into September the monsoon can put real clouds in the sky. A clear blue mid-day is the worst light in this country. A few high clouds, or a storm building over the amphitheater, will do more for a sheet of film than any filter.
